Last week, I was at home, of course, like where else would I be? It's a pandemic. And I was doing the dishes for like the fourth time that day. And I got this notification on my phone. It was about George Floyd. I started to feel numb. I've had to learn to numb myself anytime anything like this happens just to

protect my own emotions. I had to go hug my son for a long time. And then I went and sat alone in my

closet. I thought about how there have been too many senseless killings of black folks this year.

I thought about how there haven't been any school shootings because school's not in session due to COVID.

Yet black folks continue to be killed senselessly by the police.

I realized this wasn't just about George Floyd.

This was also about Ammon Arbery and Brianna Taylor and the pandemic.

All of a sudden, I realized that in that moment, I wasn't just angry or grieving.

I was responding to one disturbing event on top of 10 other disturbing events.
