| 0:00.0 | Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have a special guest to talk to you today. I've talked about this before about how important it is to be able to have people that can help us win in the courts. And anybody that's in Virginia right now understands how important it is to be able to have people that will actually defend your constitutional rights, defend the process, due process of law, |
| 0:21.8 | because what we just saw in Virginia is with a bad attorney general and with a legislature that |
| 0:27.1 | didn't care anything about the constitutional process, they just ran rough shot over every single |
| 0:33.8 | Republican voter in Virginia. We used to have five Republicans and six Democrats, |
| 0:38.3 | which was a fair breakdown of our congressional representation. |
| 0:41.3 | And now we're about to have 10 Democrats and one Republican |
| 0:44.3 | because essentially nine counties got to decide the process. |
| 0:48.3 | And now when it comes to actually trying to get our Attorney General to defend us, |
| 0:52.3 | he's not going to do that. No, he was part of |
| 0:55.2 | the person pushing this. And that's why today I'm very pleased to be able to talk with Congressman |
| 1:00.9 | Chip Roy, who is running for Attorney General in the great state of Texas. Congressman, |
| 1:06.4 | thank you very much for being here. |
| 1:08.1 | Great to be with you. I hope you're doing well. And sorry that the Commonwealth of Virginia is such a train wreck, but I'm still holding out a deep prayer. The Virginia Supreme Court will save us from the calamity. I think there's plenty of reasons for them to get that right, but we'll see. You know better than I do. Well, and again, I wish I could be more optimistic about that. that. But, you know, part of the issue here is, you know, the role of attorney general is absolutely critical when it comes to protecting our rights. There's a lot of things that obviously we expect and we would like out of the governor's office, out of the legislature. But really when it comes to defending our constitutional rights in the courts, |
| 1:48.0 | the attorney general is at the forefront of this. |
| 1:50.8 | And who occupies that seat determines not just kind of what they do, |
| 1:55.3 | but what they emphasize and what their priorities are. |
| 1:57.7 | Like what do you see is the primary role in responsibility of the attorney |
| 2:01.4 | general? So the attorney general, you know, each state is a little different, but is primarily |
| 2:06.8 | the chief legal officer, as you know. And fundamentally, you've got to defend not just the laws, |
| 2:12.0 | but you have to defend the people of Texas. You've got to defend the institutions and defend |
| 2:16.1 | the laws, but it's really the people, |
| 2:18.4 | in my view. And, you know, Texas, for example, has 31 million people. It has, you know, the eighth |
