This is the Ramsey Call of the Day, part of the Ramsey Network.

Today's question comes from Jesse in the Baby Steps Millionaire Group.

0:15.3

He says I'm 61 years old.

0:16.8

I'm hoping to retire soon, but watching my retirement savings go down day after day, after day.

0:23.8

The only part not going down is $180,000 sitting in the bank, earning almost zero interest,

0:30.3

but not completely eroding away with the stock market.

0:33.1

What should I do?

0:34.8

I like this question.

0:42.0

For many reasons. Number one, Jesse, you're forgetting that the money that's just sitting in the bank, you know, you're not, it's not earning interest

0:47.6

like it would in the stock market, but there is a little thing called inflation. And that is

0:51.4

affecting your savings that's just sitting there. So I'm just putting that out there. But let's talk about this retirement savings because you're telling me that it's, quote, completely eroding away. And that's just not true.

1:29.6

got into the research about 30 years ago on this, is that we all, especially when it comes

1:36.4

to investing, but a lot of other things, too, we all have a drama queen that lives in our

1:40.4

brain that exaggerates everything.

1:49.9

And, oh, God! You know, thing, okay? And, uh... lives in our brain that exaggerates everything and go god you know thing okay and uh the studies have told us now that it takes three dollars of gain in an investment to emotionally offset one

1:57.0

dollar of loss our brain records negative things at a much greater rate, and it takes a lot of emotion to recover from that.

2:10.3

And so what I'm saying is that Jade is exactly right.

2:14.4

Your drama queen wrote this email, okay? Completely eroding away. Oh, bull. Look.

2:22.9

Okay. It's down maybe 10%. But, I mean, so if you got a million dollars now, it's worth 900,000,
