Well, I was not a Disney kid growing up.

In fact, the first time I ever saw a Disney kid growing up.

In fact, the first time I ever saw a Disney movie was in high school.

I broke my femur, and while I was laid up, one of the ladies taking care of me decided we were going to have a Disney day, and we just watched one after another.

I don't know what your Disney threshold is.

Mine was about three before it felt like all these little singing animals were conspiring

to steal my sanity.

So it wasn't until later that I saw one in the theaters.

I saw the Lion King.

Which of you, I'm about to spoil some of the plot, but it has been three decades.

You remember when the King Lion Mufausso fell and he's all getting up, he's dead? I remember when I saw it, between the seats in front of me, I saw this little boy's face turned to his dad and go, why isn't he getting up, Daddy? I was like, okay, that's the saddest thing I've ever seen. I'm like, Disney, why? Why do this to children?

But even more important to that, do you remember the young lion's response, Simba's?

Now, the reality was there were greater forces at play in the death of his father.

But his willful disobedience against his father's expressed will played a role in the tragedy that played out.

And do you remember when that dawned on him, how he responded?

He ran.

And he lived a different life.

Not the worst life ever.

It wasn't a life of crime.

He made some friends, little wardhog, a kuna matata, all that.

But he was miles from where he was supposed to be,

and he tried to wall out the shame with little distractions,
