When Putin challenged Joe Biden to a live debate. I just thought, okay, that's kind of a typical thing to do. No. No. He said, let's have a live conversation. No breaks, no pauses.

He was calling Biden out for being old and seen Lonnie Chen. Do you think that was that was Putin saying I don't think Biden's got the mental faculties to debate me live. Do you think so?

I think this back and forth with Putin is really rich because if you look back a couple of years ago, it was Biden and Obama and their whole team that was looking to reset relations with Putin.

Yeah, little did they know that that same man many years later would be trying to challenge the president of the United States to a mud wrestling match.

No, getting Lonnie Chen's David and I and Steffi fellow in American public policy studies at the Hoover institution and the director of domestic policy studies at Stanford University.

But my theory is that was the first world leader saying your president is old and incapable. Don't you think that's what he was hinting at?

Yeah, I mean, I think look, you're going to hear it from the Russians more directly. You'll probably hear it from the government of the people's Republic of China as well. There was this really awkward exchange. I don't know if you guys saw it between our Secretary of State Tony Blinken and some Chinese officials yesterday in Alaska.

They're meeting on the borders of a big summit that's going on up there.

And you know, the United States that hit to the credit of Secretary Blinken basically called out China for its malign activity and basically said, look, you guys have issues on human rights.

You have internal issues and then the representatives from China shot back and said, well, you Americans aren't so great yourselves.

And Blinken sort of shot back in a sort of unexpected way and said, hey, never bet against America.

And that was a good moment. You know, you hope that the Biden administration and their team can continue having that kind of backbone. But you know, look, we shouldn't be surprised.

A lot of these world leaders they interact with Biden, they understand what the what the equities are. Putin just happens to be a little more brazen about the whole thing.

You're a domestic policy guy and we got stuff to talk about with you on that. But we've been talking about the China thing a lot and playing clips or whatever. I, Joan, I think that was a moment in history. I mean, that's when we're all laying the cards on the table now.

We know what you're up to. We know you know, we know what you're up to. I mean, it was just it was it's on for the next century or however long this takes, don't you think?

Well, but I you know in some ways better that way, right? It's sure that we're very clear that we're very clear about what are what are issues are.

You know, they're going to be clear about what their issues are and you know, are there opportunities to work together? Maybe.

But it's better off, you know, I think we're much better off in a world where we're looking at this from a clear eyed perspective as opposed to, you know, quite frankly, I may hate to go back to this, but the eight years of Obama Biden.
