I'm Christine Ben's Director of Personal Finance for Morningstar, Inc.

And I'm Jeff Battack, Global Director of Manager Research for Morning Star Research Services.

Every week on this podcast, we'll talk to thought leaders on money and investing.

We could think of no better person to talk to than Morningstar's own Don Phillips. Jeff and I have both felt Don's personal

influence in our careers, and Don has also been a towering presence in the mutual fund industry,

having provided analysis and commentary on funds since the mid-1980s. Don was Morningstar's first mutual fund analyst,

and he established the independent voice that all Morning Star analysts thereafter took a cue from.

He helped bring about a lot of the tools that investors today take for granted, such as the

Morning Star Stylebox and the Morning Star rating, often referred to as the Star rating.

Don has served in a variety of leadership roles at Morning Star, most recently as head of global research,

before pairing back his schedule to take on a part-time non-management role.
