Let's talk a little about sequels and franchises, okay? It's a big part of the

horror movie experience these days. Yeah, there are comedy and drama sequels and

remakes and big budget comic book movies are all about creating an entire cinematic universe.

But the horror franchise is the pot at the end of the rainbow.

Scary movies don't require big stars or big budgets.

They just need to get under your skin or make you jump.

Preferably both.

Sometimes the same story gets told over and over, or sometimes it's just a title that justifies

a movie's existence.

I can't count how many Halloween's or Hellrazers or Saws or

nightmares on Elm Street or paranormal activities there have been, but it's a lot.

Honestly, I haven't seen most of the sequels once you get up into the higher numbers.

But someone has, and there is an appetite for more or they wouldn't keep making them.

One of the longest running horror franchises was created by a 23 year old film fanatic who was born in Libya but raised in the

LA suburb of Long Beach. Don Cascarelli found himself with a tiny budgeted

movie that has been embraced from the time of its initial release in 1979 through its many sequels and

restorations and maybe is even more love today than when it came out.
