Summary

College football recruiting is still in the middle of the winter dead period, but that hasn’t stopped Inside Carolina’s Don Callahan from getting the scoop on where the Tar Heels currently stand with many of their top remaining prospects. In the aftermath of this past December’s early signing day period the recruitments of many prospects have changed, with some becoming more favorable for the Heels, others eliminating UNC from consideration, all while head coach Mack Brown continues to add new names to the staff’s recruiting board. Additionally, recently committed quarterback Sam Howell has been at the 2019 All-American Game during this past week, where his play has drawn many positive comments from the national recruiting media. Callahan joins host Jon Seiglie to discuss the latest news in UNC football recruiting, and the two are joined by a very special guest to review Howell’s performance. 0:23.3	It's been a little while since we last talked, but there was a dead period there.
0:28.1	So I think you and I both use it as a time to get some much needed R&R, huh?
0:33.8	Yeah, absolutely.
0:34.7	And with all the traveling that I do throughout the year, it was nice for Christmas. We did not travel, which was absolutely awesome. Just hung out with my wife and my two kids. And, you know, our situations are I have family. The majority of my family lives in Philadelphia. My wife has family. Her dad lives in Florida. Mom lives in Georgia. So usually on holidays, we end up traveling, which is a pain in the butt, especially when you have younger kids. But we didn't do that, which was great. How about yours? It was good. Just a soft family. Same thing. Kind of, you know, stuck around as much as we could. And now that there's the new year, going to get right back into it.
1:13.7	And the dead period, is it officially over with right now, Don, as we record on this Sunday?
1:21.3	No, it is, I believe it ends on Thursday or Friday.
1:28.4	I believe the coaches can go on the road this coming Friday.
1:32.1	And then obviously they'll definitely be able to host official visitors starting next weekend.
1:37.9	But yeah, so right now we're in the dead period.
1:39.8	And a lot of this is because of the holidays necessarily.
1:43.6	But the major national coaching convention is going on.
1:47.9	And the NCAA allows the coaches to spend that time with other coaches at the convention
1:54.3	without having to worry about being on the road and everything.
1:58.0	So it just makes it simple, make it a dead period.
2:00.0	You can't go on the road.
2:01.3	So it kind of forces, well, I don't know, forces that allows the coaches going to the National Convention,
2:07.1	which is a huge, huge, huge event for anybody who's involved in coaching, you know about this plenty.
