Campbell Ogover, please take a bow, so ended a piece in all of the Champions League programmes for match day four.

One of the nice things about this season's UEFA Champions League is that Campbell Ogilvy is back.

It started.

And every match day we should go to his office on the first floor of the main stand at Ibrook Stadium in Glasgow and hang a welcome home banner over the door.

Ogilve, the piece rightly impressed on its readers throughout the eight European cities that evening, was responsible for all of this.

It outlined how his initial vision was rejected and explained how he then modified it down, translated it into various languages and actively doorknought and campaigned until he made a case

that was convincing enough to get the ball rolling.

Now in 1995-96, with its four groups of four leading to a quarterfinal knockout stage,

UEFA had actually eventually been led back to his original concept.

It was just three days under three years since Rangers secured qualification

for that very first Champions League.

For many in Ibrooks that evening, it must have felt like three decades.
