A federal judge throughout the Trump administration's lawsuit against Maryland's 15 federal judges.

The DOJ sued the lower-level district court judges of Maryland in late June.

After the court's chief judge put a rule in place that would automatically and temporarily block

the government from removing an immigration detainee from the U.S. if the detainee went to court to

challenge their removal. The rule was on full display yesterday in Kilmar-Abrego-Garcia's case,

the Maryland man who was unlawfully deported to El Salvador in mid-March and eventually returned to the U.S.

The Trump administration has indicated it was to deport him immediately, but Abrago-Garcia

filed a new case in Maryland that triggered the protection from the court against immediate deportation.

In today's opinion, Judge Thomas Cullen, a Trump appointee, wrote that the DOJ couldn't

pursue a quote, constitutional free-for-all.

He also said the government lacked the legal right to bring the challenge, and that judges

are immune from such lawsuits brought by the executive branch.
