I'm Ben Mycelis from the Midas Touch Network. The Department of Justice has filed a notice of appeal regarding the duration of the sentencing delivered by federal judge Amit Mehta to seven oath keepers, including the leader of the terrorist group Steward Roads.

Steward Roads was sentenced to 18 years in prison by federal judge Amit Mehta.

And in this appeal, so far only a notice of appeal has been filed. The Department of Justice will be asking the DC Circuit Court of Appeals to ensure that Steward Roads is given the full amount of time that was requested by the Department of Justice.

The full 25 years. Now many observers looked at the sentencing handed down to these oath keepers as being quite a serious penalty.

But the Department of Justice is sending a message here saying that if you were in the oath keepers this terrorist organization, you deserve to get the maximum sentence provided for by law, which the Department of Justice set forth in their sentencing.

For the sentencing, which took place in May of this year, among the individual sentences that are being appealed by the Department of Justice includes the terrorist Steward Roads, who was sentenced to 18 years when the Department of Justice requested 25 years.

Florida oath keeper leader Kelly Megs, who received a 12 year sentence when the Department of Justice sought 21 years.

Robert Menuta of New York was sentenced to 4.5 years when the Department of Justice sought 17 years.

Joseph Hackett of Florida received a 3.5 year sentence when the Department of Justice sought 12 years.

Ed Vallejo of Arizona received a 3 year sentence when the DOJ sought 17 years. David Moore-Shell of Florida was sentenced to 3 years.

The Department of Justice sought 10 years and the DOJ also appealed the convictions of two oath keepers acquitted of seditious conspiracy but convicted of conspiring to obstruct an official proceeding of Congress.

Jessica Watkins of Ohio, who was sentenced to 8.5 years in jail, the Department of Justice sought 18 years and Kenneth Harrelson of Florida, who was sentenced to 4 years, the Department of Justice sought 15 years.

What is interesting about this dynamic is that Judge Amit Mehta has been a law in order, fairly no nonsense, Judge.

He was appointed by the Obama administration and we've talked a lot about Judge Amit Mehta on the Midas Touch Network about his very, very strong handling of these January 6th related cases.

But to the Department of Justice's point when you look at the sentencing where the Department of Justice for many of these oath keepers was requesting 10, 15, 17 years and he was giving them 3 years, I understand why the Department of Justice would be filing this appeal.

And they want to send a message that if you are involved in this type of conduct, we are not just going to let that rest, we are going to make sure that you are sentenced to every single day that the law provides.
