Summary

In this episode, Danielle chats with Ashley and Keri from the Momtourage Podcast about how each of them has navigated the pressures of doing things the way their parents and families did them while growing up, with figuring out how they each want factors such as tradition, spirituality, and religion to play a factor in their own adult lives and the lives of their kids. How does being in an interfaith marriage affect the decision-making process concerning tradition? Is there a way to honor our upbringing while still changing how our own family unit approaches aspects of religion and spirituality? How does one figure it all out when they didn't have real role models as children? Throughout the episode, the three women go off topic several times, and the conversation that ensues is both hilarious and relatable. Diversions include how pandemic parenting differed from "regular" parenting, getting periods for the first time, and fascinating ghost sex stories.

Hey everyone, welcome to Marriage and Martini's.

0:29.6

This is Danielle. Usually in August, we take off. We don't record at all or release any episodes usually.

0:37.6

In this summer we did. We recorded a few episodes and today we have an episode with the ladies from Mom Tourage, which was really fun.

0:47.6

Adam and I will be back hopefully next week more consistently with our episodes because these kids will be back to school and hopefully we'll be getting back into a groove.

0:58.6

But you know how it is. August is just insanity. So we did want to release a few episodes but we do usually take off and we will be back very soon.

1:09.6

Just the two of us. For now though I wanted to release this episode. It was such an interesting conversation with Carrie and Ashley from Mom Tourage.

1:19.6

A topic that I am really kind of obsessed with which is the idea of how do we as parents and as couples and as individual adults sort of formulate our own ideas of what's important in terms of tradition and spirituality and religion in our lives.

1:47.6

When we have been taught one thing our whole lives or maybe there was the lack of that right maybe some of us grew up without any tradition or religion or spirituality whatever the experience was I think it's such a tricky thing to decide.

2:09.6

Am I going to just follow the route of what I was taught or am I going to deviate from that and decide that there are traditions that I don't want to embrace or elements of religion that I don't want to embrace spirituality.

2:26.6

And I think for me and Adam it has been a really tough road to decide that there were aspects of our upbringing that weren't working for us as a couple and as parents and as people yet are traditions and religion and spirituality was still very important to us.

2:54.6

So how do we navigate that and Ashley and Carrie I was so interested in talking to you because they are both in interfaith relationships long term interfaith relationships.

3:07.6

And so getting their perspective on it all and how do you manage all of that having such different upbringings.

3:17.6

The whole conversation about this topic to me is one that I'm still really sifting through Adam and I are really working through but I talk a lot how the first couple years not even couple 10 to 15 years probably of our marriage was sort of just replicating whatever our parents did.

3:38.6

So we're working through all of that we do get very honest in this episode Carrie Ashley and myself about our issues with you know trying to decide which aspects of tradition and religion and everything we're going to be important to us and which we kind of have moved away from.

4:03.6

So it is sort of a vulnerable episode it's a tough topic right everybody has very very personal ideas about how religion and spirituality and traditions should affect our lives and how strictly we should follow these guidelines and and all of us are different and you know there's there has to be a respect for how one person does it versus how another person does it.

4:29.6

And so that was kind of cool having this conversation where we all have these similar but different experiences so we talk about that we get off topic many many times but it's in a really great fun way and I love women who can challenge me as far as what they're willing to say and what they're willing to divulge in the the stories they're willing to tell so I was loving sort of the fact that.

4:59.6

I was definitely maybe the tastiest of the bunch but not really I mean I just loved hearing all their stuff and having to keep up with the spiciness of the conversation it was really great.

5:10.6

So I hope you enjoy this episode with Ashley and Carrie from mom tarage they're really awesome and you can find them on Instagram at mom tarage you can follow them their podcast is mom tarage podcast podcast.
