You know, I really want to talk about this doing it for the plot phrase.

Because I just think it's fucking hilarious.

If you don't know, doing it for the plot is a saying that essentially supports the idea of being impulsive

because no matter what, you can tell yourself,

well, at least I've got a good story to tell at the end of this.

And I think that's really funny,

because when we want to make really bad decisions,

we tell ourselves that we are doing it for the plot

or we tell ourselves we're doing it so we can at least have a great story to tell.

And unfortunately, I'm going to be the resident party pooper when I say that I don't know about this whole doing it for the plot thing.

Because this doing it for the plot phrase reminds me of when musicians talk about being in bad relationships on purpose so they can write music.

And I'm like, are you in bad relationships repeatedly because you need something to write about?

Or are you in bad relationships repeatedly because you need something to write about? Or are you in bad relationships repeatedly because you lack to sound, man?

Because I'm not buying it.

I'm not sure about that.

That whole thing of like, you know, I just...

I write the best art when I'm sad and depressed and heartbroken, which I don't disagree with that, you know?

Like, people have different ways of reaching their own emotional depths and certain situations do inspire us to view ourselves in a particular way.

And that can birth really deeply layered art that connects with people.

I'm not disputing that.

What I think is quite interesting is the ways that we justify tormenting ourselves for the sake of having good art.

Because like, see, why, but why can't your art be good if you're not tormenting yourself?
