Where Dan grew up, on the outskirts of San Diego, there was a mountain range right behind his home that he and his best friend, Shawn, used to explore. One day, while Dan and Shawn were exploring the mountain, looking for animals that had been killed by a recent wildfire, something found them that they wish hadn’t.
