Hello and welcome back to the Americano show, a series of discussions in which we talk about

American politics, power and prejudices.

Each week, we will do at least two, possibly more episodes

speaking to an American or an American expert about what is going on in America.

We will cover the Trump presidency, of course,

Today, I am delighted to be joined by Dan Caldwell, who was formerly a senior advisor to Pete Higgseth, the Secretary of Defense or the

Secretary of the Department of War, as it's sometimes called, and he's also a military veteran.

And we're going to be talking about Trump's national security strategy, because last week on

Friday, there was quite a lot of upbraw in Europe and in Britain about this security document, which came out.

It's a 30-page document looking at America's foreign policy in the round.

And a few European commentators were upset that the Trump administration had said that Europe is facing civilizational erasure.

Now, Dan, as I'm sure you may have seen, Emmanuel Macron said something very similar and nobody

seemed to mind. And yet when the Trump administration say it, there's a lot of sensitivity

in Europe and Britain.
