Summary

Does the popular Keto Diet cause diabetes?

We're going to answer that question by diving into what research shows on this episode of The Exam Roomβ„’ podcast!

"The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll is joined by Dr. Hana Kahleova who has studied the link between the Keto Diet and diabetes. She says that it's time to rethink sugar and carbohydrates as the culprits behind diabetes and instead look at the other foods on your plate, including meat and dairy. In fact, she cites a long-term study that finds following a low-carb diet for 10 years or more significantly increases the risk of becoming diabetic.

Dr. Kahleova and Chuck explore the three major nutritional problems that are causing people to live sicker and die younger. It turns out that the three are directly to related to the carbohydrate-restricted Keto Diet.

Chuck then explores the plant-based scene in England with a little help from Emma Humfrey. Interest in healthy eating is leading to a boom in options for plant-based eaters it seems! Emma, a paramedic by day and yoga master by night, also shares her own journey to a plant-based diet and how she's teaching her yoga students about nutrition with homemade healthy plant-based treats!

Emma's mom, who was skeptical of her diet at first, has now even opened her own plant-based eatery after seeing her daughter thrive!
