0:08.6	be discussing the philosophical version of the Kalam cosmological argument.
0:13.7	And these two Christian apologists have been really instrumental in my own life in helping
0:17.5	me understand the intellectual aspect of the faith and to grow in my relationship with

0:25.8	We have Dr. Bill Craig and Mr. Jimmy Aiken.
0:29.3	Now let me just set the stage before I introduce the guests.
0:32.5	The Kalam argument for those not familiar with it runs as follows.
0:36.6	Everything that begins to exist has a cause.
0:38.7	The universe began to exist, therefore the universe has a cause.
0:43.1	Now the philosophical version of the argument which we'll be discussing today does not rely
0:47.0	on big bang cosmology or astrophysics, but instead seeks to show that the universe
0:52.3	had to have a beginning by reason alone.
0:55.5	The point of this discussion is to see whether or not the argument works.
0:59.5	Bill thinks it does, Jimmy thinks it doesn't.
1:02.2	This is not a Catholic verse Protestant thing.
1:05.1	In the Catholic church, for example, there have been people like St. Bonneventure, a doctor
1:09.3	of the church, arguing for the Kalam argument, and people like St. Thomas Aquinas, another
1:14.6	doctor of the church, saying that it most certainly does not work, that it's not a good
1:18.7	argument for God.
