Now let me just set the stage before I introduce the guests.

The Kalam argument for those not familiar with it runs as follows.

Everything that begins to exist has a cause.

The universe began to exist, therefore the universe has a cause.

Now the philosophical version of the argument which we'll be discussing today does not rely

on big bang cosmology or astrophysics, but instead seeks to show that the universe

had to have a beginning by reason alone.

The point of this discussion is to see whether or not the argument works.

Bill thinks it does, Jimmy thinks it doesn't.

This is not a Catholic verse Protestant thing.

In the Catholic church, for example, there have been people like St. Bonneventure, a doctor

of the church, arguing for the Kalam argument, and people like St. Thomas Aquinas, another

doctor of the church, saying that it most certainly does not work, that it's not a good

argument for God.
