Questions in this Episode

1. Is "the spirit of Christmas" something that is antithetical to the Christian faith? It seems very consumeristic to me.

2. Does God give us individualized instructions on life choices?

3. I've heard Hebrews 13:17 used over the years to justify an almost cult like obedience to a pastor. From what color shirts to wear to justifying questionable decisions. Does this verse really command use to blindly do as we are told?

4. Can a pastor require weeks of sinless behavior before taking communion?

Christian, what's your question for Pastor Adriel?

0:47.4

Hi. So, I'll start by saying, when we look at Christmas, it's a holiday that's supposed to be centered around Christ and birds and everything like that.

1:01.6

But there's a mixture of things in there.

1:04.1

And when we start mixing in Santa Claus and the consumerism and the gifts and this and that, you know, it's all, it's all been anthropomorphized

1:12.4

to be symbolic to the Christian faith, but I have been, I've been experiencing divisions

1:20.1

because ever since I was a little kid, whenever I found out that Santa Claus wasn't real,

1:24.4

and it didn't take my parents telling me to see that there was an S on a present.

1:28.1

I need a tree in early December, you know.

1:31.4

I, it just occurs to me now that whenever we, you know, I get criticism for not being in the Christmas spirit.

1:40.8

It hit me when someone said that.

1:42.4

The Christmas spirit is not the Holy Spirit.

1:45.7

It's almost like we're, there's this consumerism holiday that's hidden by the shield of virtue

1:53.5

and protected by us Christians when in reality, Santa Claus and Presidents don't deserve the throne of God.

2:00.8

So is it ridiculous to think that we should say yes? Santa Claus and presents don't deserve the throne of God.

2:07.6

So is it ridiculous to think that we should say yes, have your Christmas, have your Santa Claus,

2:12.3

have your presents, but keep Jesus out of it because they do not hold the same,

2:17.1

that they do not deserve to be on the throne with him, that he deserves his own recognition.
