3:05pm- The Department of Justice has charged Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, with lying on a federal form about drug abuse when purchasing a firearm in 2008. C. Ryan Barber and Sadie Gurman of The Wall Street Journal write: “The three-count indictment alleges that Hunter Biden knowingly lied in certifying that he wasn’t addicted to drugs when he purchased a Colt Cobra 38SPL in October 2018 and that he possessed the firearm illegally. Prosecutors didn’t file tax charges against Hunter Biden on Thursday but could still do so.” Reportedly, Hunter could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted. 3:15pm- While visiting Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland, President Joe Biden delivered prepared remarks and did not address his son, Hunter, being indicted by the Department of Justice earlier in the day.

3:30pm- Interestingly, Special Counsel David Weiss and the Department of Justice negotiated a plea deal with Hunter Biden several months ago—now, after having that deal scrapped by a judge, Biden could face a quarter-of-a-century in prison.

3:40pm- While appearing on Fox News, George Washington University Law professor Jonathan Turley hypothesized that Hunter Biden’s indictment could effectively end President Joe Biden’s political career. Turley explained that although President Biden could pardon his son, it would be difficult to stand for reelection afterward.

4:25pm- In July, the House Oversight Committee heard testimony from two Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblowers who alleged Hunter Biden received special treatment from the Department of Justice while under investigation. Whistleblower Gary Shapley claimed that he has documented conversations indicating U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss did not have final say in prosecutorial decisions, and even attempted to bring charges against Hunter in California and Washington D.C. but was reject—which contradicted Attorney General Merrick Garland’s claims. 5:35pm- The administration of New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has actively fought state schools in court over policies which prioritize notifying parents when their children identify as transgender. According to Kirsten Fleming, multiple school districts are now pushing back. She writes: “The district’s tactic exploits an embarrassing disclosure made by the state’s deputy attorney general during a court case New Jersey has brought against Hanover Township and three other districts.
