channel. Hey everyone, welcome to another instalment of Harry Potter Theory.

Today we'll be discussing how ordinary muggles react when they find out that their child

is magical.

The majority of muggle-born witches and wizards do not discover that they are magical until

they are invited to come study magic as a child. In the United Kingdom,

this momentous occasion takes place the year of a child's 11th birthday by way of mail. Each young

witch or wizard receives her letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Sometime over the summer months before the start of term in the fall.

In the case of Muggleborns, Hogwarts dispatches a member of staff who travel to the home

of said Muggleborn student so that the letter can be properly introduced and explained.

These future students of Hogwarts have all been chosen by a magical system of admittance,

which is exclusively operated by an ancient magical book and

a quill, known as the book of admittance and the quill of acceptance. These two items are

responsible for deciding who will be invited to come study at the school, with the quill

writing the name of any child who chose magical ability within the region into the book, no

questions asked.

From there, a member of Hogwarts teaching staff sends out a letter to each new student

before the start of term.

In Harry Potter's case, his letter was written by Deputy Headmistress, Professor
