Summary

Throughout the New Testament, we witness the incredible miracles Jesus and the Apostles performed. But in today's world, how can Christians effectively support those who are suffering from illness and pain? We invite you to join us for an enlightening program as Chip shares valuable insights and practical applications from James chapter 5. We will explore the true meaning of divine healing in the 21st century and uncover prayer's transformative role in supernatural breakthroughs.

Main Points

A look at the problem: "Sickness" - 4 types:
  1. Sickness for death. --1 John 5:16
  2. Sickness for discipline. --1 Corinthians 11:30-32
  3. Sickness for God's glory. --John 11:4
  4. Sickness from the enemy. --Luke 13:11
A look at solutions: "Healing" - 5 views:
  1. Sensationalists
  2. Confessionalists
  3. Anti-Supernaturalists
  4. Rationalists
  5. Medical/Biblical/Spiritual Integration
God's specific instruction for the physically ill is James 5:14-15
  • Who are the sick?
  • What are the sick to do?
  • What are the elders to do?
  • What does God promise to do?
  • What sin or other conditions might qualify God's promise to heal?
God's general application for physical health is James 5:16-18
  • What is the presumed relationship between sin and sickness in this passage?
  • What are we all told to do regularly for our health?
  • What kind of prayer has healing impact?
  • Who qualifies to be heard by God for healing and the miraculous?
Conclusion: Getting the "Big Picture" on healing. Three biblical models of healing:
  1. The intervention of God. --Acts 3:1-9
  2. The interaction of God. --1 Timothy 5:23
  3. The enabling of God. --2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Miraculous healing is never primarily about solving a physical problem – it is almost always to affirm, or clarify, or deliver a person.
