Scriptures Referenced in This Episode:

“Then God said, ‘Let there be something to divide the water in two.’ So God made the air and placed some of the water above the air and some below it. God named the air ‘sky.’ Evening passed, and morning came. This was the second day.” Genesis 1:6-8 (NCV)

“He fills his hands with lightning and commands it to strike its mark.” Job 36:32 (NCV)

“That evening, Jesus said to his followers, ‘Let’s go across the lake.’ Leaving the crowd behind, they took him in the boat just as he was. There were also other boats with them. A very strong wind came up on the lake. The waves came over the sides and into the boat so that it was already full of water. Jesus was at the back of the boat, sleeping with his head on a cushion. His followers woke him and said, ‘Teacher, don’t you care that we are drowning!’

Jesus stood up and commanded the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind stopped, and it became completely calm.

Jesus said to his followers, ‘Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?’

The followers were very afraid and asked each other, ‘Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!’” Mark 4:35-41 (NCV)

“Lord, you are my God.

I honor you and praise you,

because you have done amazing things.

You have always done what you said you would do;

you have done what you planned long ago…

You are like a shelter from storms…” Isaiah 25:1,4b (NCV)

Terms Learned in This Episode:

  • Atmosphere: A protective layer of gasses that is held in place by gravity, including the air we breathe.
  • Gravity: An invisible force that pulls objects toward each other. Earth’s gravity pulls everything toward the center of earth.
  • Troposphere: The lowest layer of Earth’s atmosphere, where we live, breathe, and where almost all weather happens.
  • Water Vapor: Water that has turned into a gas you can’t see.
  • Water Cycle: The way water moves around the Earth—going from the ground to the sky and back again.
  • Lightning’s Electrical Charge: The invisible “energy” that builds up in storm clouds and makes lightning.
