Hello and welcome back to Sochiology 101.

Today we're going to be answering the question, does God love everyone?

Now we've discussed this before on previous broadcast, but not recently since I've done the YouTube videos in a hopefully short, concise way of answering this question. And the reason this question I think needs to be answered is because it can get confusing when talking about the love of God with Calvinists, because many Calvinists will argue that God does indeed love

everyone. In fact, John MacArthur wrote a book called The Love of God in which he argues

that God does indeed have love or common love for all people, as does D.A. Carson, his book

called The Difficult Doctrine of the Love of God, which I think is an ironic title, given that I don't think the doctrine is so difficult if you don't adopt theistic determinism, i.e. Calvinism.

The doctrine of God's love is quite simple.

It's much like the love of a father or a parent for a child who is free to go his own way and make his own decisions, and that love is genuine, the desire for the child to respond positively to his appeals and to his calling.

That all makes perfect sense within a sociological worldview that we hold to like provisionism because God provides for all people because he loves all people.

But Calvinists are put into a difficult quandary here

because they want to affirm the many passages, which do indicate that God has love for all of the

world. But at the same time, their doctrine doesn't seem to be consistent with that. And that's what

Now, here's the question, does God really, and I use the word really there because even, like I said, even the leading Calvinist will often say, yes, God loves everyone. If you ask him the question, does God love everyone?

Even John Calvin himself in his commentary on John 316 argues for a universal love of God for all of creation, for all that he is created.

He genuinely does love all people.

But as is common with Calvinism, they have two different kinds of love.

This is the same thing you'll see with two different kinds of call. There's a general call on

Calvinism and then there's the effectual call on Calvinism. There's two kinds of love.

There's a general or common love and then there's an effectual kind of supernatural,

electing kind of love, they may call it.

There's two kinds of wills of God. There's a prescriptive or external will of God, and then
