Summary

Can genetic engineering resurrect extinct animals—and does that challenge God’s role as Creator? Recent headlines from Colossal Biosciences about the company's efforts to revive extinct species such as the dire wolf have sparked global conversations about science, ethics, and the origins of life. In this episode of Apostolic Life in the 21st Century, Dr. David K. Dr. Bernard, this is our last episode for 2025, so we thought we would maybe shake things up a little bit.

0:13.2

We usually ask questions that are directly rooted in a scripture or something similar, a theme of the Bible. This maybe is a little bit different. One of our

0:23.2

viewers on YouTube wanted to get your thoughts on the following. He noted that with science now

0:28.1

working to bring back extinct animals, how does this fit with trusting God as the designer and

0:34.9

creator of life? Now, he specifically cites the example of the dire wolf.

0:40.4

So earlier this year, a company called colossal biosciences made headlines when they announced

0:46.2

that they had brought back, using genetic engineering, of course, they had resurrected this

0:50.9

particular species of wolf that has been extinct for thousands of years.

0:55.3

And this company, colossal biosciences, has also made it known that their intention is

1:01.1

they want to bring back other extinct animals like woolly mammoths, specifically cited this,

1:06.8

Dodo's and Tasmanian tigers.

1:13.1

does humanity's ability to, he used the phrase,

1:16.6

de-extinct creatures, change the way we should trust God's authority over life in general?

1:22.8

I guess maybe to broaden the question a little bit,

1:25.9

what implications do these developments have,

1:28.5

if any, for Christians and Christian thought?

1:31.5

It's an interesting subject. Of course, the Bible doesn't directly speak to it,

1:38.4

but I do think there's some principles here. So a narrow answer would be, I don't see anything inherently wrong,

1:47.1

because after all, if God created these animals to start with, there's, and they went extinct

1:54.8

many times through human action, sometimes maybe climate and other catastrophes.

2:01.9

But seemingly, if it was a part of God's creative plan that he allowed it, he created it,
