Summary

What do the election results and mass violence have in common? Among other things: men—angry American men whose path to radicalization seems to be moving faster and faster. Why is it happening? What can we do about it, both in our politics and in our own lives? And whose responsibility actually is it to fix all this? In this episode, Brittany speaks with journalists Anand Giridharadas and Liz Plank about the manosphere, who profits from it, and what should take its place. Plus: Brittany breaks down the UNtrending news, from Bad Bunny to Biden. Please consider donating to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, which supports the first responders working to quell the devastating California wildfires. Keep an eye on Mutual Aid LA Network’s Fire & Storm Resource document for additional support opportunities. Hey y'all.

0:05.0

So I've been asking myself a question lately.

0:08.0

It's a question I advise people to ask at multiple points in their lives, especially when

0:13.0

people ask me for career advice or how did you find your purpose?

0:17.9

I say that you need to ask yourself, what do you want to be true in the world because you are here?

What you want to be true in the world because you are here is going to look different in high

0:50.3

school or college than it will when you're 35, in part because your world will look

0:55.6

different. It will get bigger and more expansive and certainly get more complex. So I've been asking

1:02.2

myself that question, what do I want to be true in the world because I am here? And, you know, for

1:08.0

years, my answer to that question was that I wanted people, however they

1:12.8

interacted with me, I wanted people to be activated.

1:16.1

I wanted people to feel like they were being told the truth and that they could do something

1:20.3

to make the world better with that truth.

1:23.7

But as I've been asking myself that question lately, I feel like the answer is evolving.

1:29.9

I still believe that truth-telling will always be central to my purpose.

1:36.2

But truth-telling to what end?

1:38.7

I think about sometimes whether or not I'm supposed to be a persuader who gets other people who might not quite
