Hospital staff. What are your experiences with people waking from anesthesia?

A patient woke up from his wisdom tooth removal, begging the doctor to let him be David Bowie.

The doctor actually asked how that was supposed to happen, and the answer was that,

it would be fantastic. He then sang a pitch-perfect rendition of space oddity in an admirable Bowie impression.

Peed his pants and passed out.

Had a patient ring in for an endoscopy.

As a matter of course, we placed a speculum, think a ball gag but a metal ring instead of a ball,

in his mouth through which to pass the scope so the patient doesn't bite the scope once

they're under. We typically place it right at induction of anesthesia. This patient had the

presence of mind to ask us what the safe word was before he lost consciousness as we placed

the speculum. One of the rare times the whole OR erupted in laughter. I once had a patient start totally

trashing her sister, telling me how she's always been the black sheep of the family, is a

scumbag and wants to bang her husband. She's just going off and sitting in the doorway was the

sister, the only one there to support her after surgery. You could tell it was crushing for her. This is probably

an hour after the patient left P-ACU, conscious but still pretty whacked out. Oh no, poor sis. Well,

hopefully that anesthetic-induced spell was the motivation the sisters needed to hash out their

differences once everyone was lucid again.

Is it like alcohol where the whole lot of truth is said when drunk slash sedated?

Or is it just fantasy bull crap nonsense that people can sometimes spew?

The whole truth comes out when you're drinking thing is probably just an old wife's tale anyway.

Being inebriated in any way doesn't lend itself to fluid thinking or speaking. So I'm going to say it's just fantasy land type stuff. My dad was in a
