And Mr Ferrari and I just exchanged a sort of curious, eye-rolling sense of incredulity at the news this morning or the note this morning that it's

10 years since that expensive scandal broke. Kind of coming of age for me in many ways. It was the

first time I sort of felt like a political journalist as opposed to an ex-gossip columnist and

rubbish show-piz journalist that I've been before but my rage my fury at these people

was palpable. We will

discuss the story a little later in the

programme because I have to tell you, don't

laugh and don't get cross with me

but I think we overreacted

and given that the only really

virulent complaints I've ever

received from serving politicians

occurred during that period, I'm going to have to do a little bit of Mayor Culp.

I think I overreacted slightly based upon some fairly deep misunderstanding.

And of course, the damage done to politics, they just sort of consider the kind of people who like the look of Donald Trump, who is now seeking legal, legal measures to suppress the publication of his own tax returns, describe themselves as dissatisfied and disillusioned with politicians.

It opened the door to something really, really ugly.

MEPs who vowed years ago to have their expenditure audited and never did somehow managed to

cast themselves as enemies of the politicians who do have their expenses recorded and regulated

and who do fall foul of the rules. How can that be? How can the people

who refuse to publish their financial dealings have somehow ended up cast as the critics of people
