* A theologian named Michael Byrd breaks down theological truths into three primary categories.
* First, there are matters essential for salvation. On these matters, we have to have agreement. These include the person of Christ, the way of salvation, etc. These are things absolutely worth dividing over, and I would not partner with someone in ministry in an area like this where we disagree.
* Second, there are matters that are important to the faith and the church but not matters of salvation. These things are also things where you need a relative amount of unity. They're almost always spelled out in Scripture.
* Third, there are matters of indifference. Those are non-essentials, debatable things, preferences, opinions, etc.
* You've got to know what category different truths go into. Romans 14 says we are not to divide over inconsequential, disputed matters.

Wisdom is knowing what to unite around and what things are worth dividing over.

0:22.5	And J.D., I'm going to ask the question and then give a little bit of context.
0:25.5	But the question today is, do you partner in ministry with people you disagree with?
0:31.1	And I know we both know that some churches and people, they just, they never partner with any other churches or any other pastors
0:37.6	who don't fall like exactly in line with every single theological belief that they have.
0:42.9	Where do you land on that? Do you partner in ministry with people that you disagree with?
0:47.1	Yeah, you know, this is actually a really relevant question because I just got asked this because
0:50.3	we had at our church, a guy named John Mark Comer, who is a friend who was here and people said, hey, you know, isn't he an egalitarian, which means somebody that believes that women can be pastors?
1:00.9	And because we disagree with that here at the summit church, you know, we were compromising truth and bringing him here.
1:07.2	Well, I mean, a couple things. First, actually, he's not an egalitarian. They believe the office of
1:13.2	elder is reserved for men. They believe the word pastor can be used outside of the office of
1:19.1	elder. I actually disagree with that. I think the office of elder and office of pastor in the
1:25.4	Bible are the same. But they use the word pastor,
1:29.0	much like we do the word minister.
1:31.0	Again, I disagree with that,
1:32.3	but it's actually not egalitarian.
1:34.6	So that's on one hand.
1:36.1	But on the other hand,
1:36.8	even if you were an egalitarian,
1:38.3	I didn't have him here to teach on those things.
1:40.8	He didn't espouse anything that we disagree with as a church. But was it, if somebody was in
