of anti-blackness and whiteness through colonialism and the United States and its impacts on present-day

America. The book centers anti-blackness as the core tenet of so-called racism in white America

and amplifies its relationship to the inherent value of whiteness, which includes things like

white identity, white culture, white institutions, etc.

Now, I want to give you a warning here.

Frankly, most people have never heard a dissection of whiteness as a function of culture.

And in light of the way that whiteness culture is currently activated in this society, it can be a disconcerting experience. Here are some

this way. In the conversation, when we use terms like white people, we're

obviously not talking about all white people, but those who either embrace white supremacist thoughts covertly or overtly, or those who are so willfully oblivious to the suffering of others that whiteness culture can create, that they peacefully coexist with the systems of oppression that this system generates.

So when we use terms like white people, we're not talking about all white people. And as the old folks will say, only a hit dog hollers.
