Today we're asking, do we have enough money now.

It's an interesting day for us to launch. It's a huge moment in the political calendar.

The Chancellor's going to Parliament

to tell us how much money the government has

and what he's gonna spend it on.

And down here in the heart of the biggest newsroom in the country, the news machine is humming.

Everybody's busy with previews and briefings and reactions. TV crews are being dispatched to the

Houses of Parliament and Downing Street.

So it's a big news day.

Our colleagues are already busy of course giving you brilliant analysis and you can get

all the budget details in your news feeds.

But what we want to do here each day is to take a step back. We've had a decade of cuts. In 2008, when the banks collapsed, the government spent billions and billions saving the financial

system, and it's been trying to make that money back ever since.

It's done it by freezing pay for doctors and nurses, the police, teachers.

It's done it also by cutting budgets for local authorities, justice, defense.

But a few weeks ago, the Prime Minister announced that this austerity as it's known
