Noah Rothman. Hi Noah. Hi John. So we like everybody else,

reeling from footage that I hope I'm sorry I had to see and that anybody had to see this horrible

beating and killing of Tyree Nichol in Memphis by five pops who spent I think somebody counted that

in the course of his first stoppage then his he going away and they found him again.

The cops issued something like 70 different orders to him often contradicting each other as they

were ordering him to do things put your hands up put your hands down put your hands on the car put

your hands on your head that kind of thing as they then got angrier and angrier and and we're actually

openly praising themselves for having started to beat him and deliver haymakers on him while he

screamed. So we're back in this syndrome which we have an extreme crime an extreme act of police

lawlessness and what looks like they've been charged with them second to re-merder and it certainly

looks like second to re-merder. And it is horrifying by virtue of the fact that it is so extreme

not it's not it's it's out of the ordinary and entirely unprecedented and yet we are being

asked at the same time to to view it as a representative act of the interaction between police officers

and black people in the United States. And there is some huge cognitive dissonance there

even among people who are inclined to believe that you know ACAB and we need to cut funding for

the police it's they're forced to twist themselves into pretzels trying to explain why it is

that five black officers beating a black suspect to death is an act of white supremacy not that
