In the year 1822, a Virginia inkeeper was given a locked box that he was told not to open for 10 years.

Decades later, he finally opened it to see that it contained ciphers, which pointed to the location of buried treasures.

These ciphers have become some of the most puzzling codes in history and have never been solved completely.

Today we dive into the bewildering mystery of the Beale ciphers.

Yeah, and so automatically, you know, I'm shifting through the different profiles on my head and going,

I hate the lot of the tech is white that off the board.

Exactly.

And so, yeah, getting my head settled into the time period, I will say,

I'm a sucker for treasure mysteries.

Oh, it's been a while.

It's so cool.

Yeah, it's just, I don't know, it's what you see in movies and stuff.

You don't think it's real, but obviously it's based off of reality.

Right.

And it's just not something you experience these days, like who just happens to come across a treasure map.

That's not a thing that happens throughout and reality anymore.
