So a common thread on the traffic leaderboard of the Reason Website last week, not that we

look at that was the fault line or fault lines between libertarianism and the current state

of theoretical and applied American conservatism nearly eight years after Donald Trump escalated

into our political lives.

I'll just read some headlines to give you a taste of what I am talking about.

The post liberal authoritarians want you to forget that private companies have rights.

Post pushing common good capitalism sound a lot like progressives.

Ron DeSantis confirms again that his attack on Disney was political retribution and pot

legalization is a big mistake, only if you ignore the value of freedom and the injustice

of prohibition.

These are all different stories to be sure and it's not exactly as if your father's GOP

was super gung ho on legal pot, but what we do see here is a growing desire.

I think we see this to use government as a tool to whack into shape any entity, including

the types of private businesses that used to kind of be the bedrock of the Republican

party, at least fundraising purposes, that are deemed to be degrading to the collective
