Summary

A handful of studies studying the effects of probiotics may be taken out of context. One study on Align probiotic (a Bifidobacterium infantis strain) showed that a few healthy people who took it for several weeks tested positive for methane on a SIBO lactulose breath test. No significant change in symptoms was noted, most likely indicating only that the probiotics had transiently built up in their digestive systems. The vast majority of evidence indicates that probiotics crowd out harmful bacteria without colonizing your gut. They are worth seriously considering to fight SIBO, fungal overgrowth, and leaky gut, and lessen many digestive symptoms. https://drruscio.com/?p=29064

Hey, everyone, this is Dr. Rischo, and let's discuss if probiotics cause Cibo, small intestinal

0:45.6

bacterial overgrowth.

0:46.9

This is a very important question because if you have small intestinal bacteria overgrowth,

0:51.8

a condition where there's too much bacteria in the small intestine,

0:55.7

that has been correlated or is one of the underlying causes of the symptoms of IVS. So gas,

1:02.5

bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, and diarrhea, all being some, but not the only symptoms

1:09.6

that small intestinal bacterial overgrowth can contribute to. So if you're having those symptoms, you're likely

1:15.7

considering a probiotic as a treatment for those symptoms. So you'd really like to know,

1:20.9

could a probiotic, something I'm trying to use to help me, actually make me worse?

1:26.7

And the answer to this question is really no.

1:29.4

Probiotics do not cause small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. The vast, vast majority of

1:34.9

the evidence supports that statement. But every once in a while, there's a reference or there's

1:39.6

a study that is a little bit confusing and needs to be looked at and contextualized. So I'll put one study

1:46.6

of such up here on the screen entitled, Effect of Bifidobacterium Infantist or Align Probiotic

1:52.8

on the lactulose breath test for small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. Now, some have cited
