0:00.0 | Well, there's two things I know about you as a leader. Number one, you want to get better. Number two, you want your organization or your mission to get better. |
0:07.0 | And most of us think that the path to better always takes more, more time, more money, more energy. |
0:14.0 | On today's episode, we're going to learn that's not always the case. I want to talk to you about what I call bending the curve. |
0:21.0 | Hey, welcome to another episode of the Craig Rose Shell Leadership Podcast where we're deeply passionate about helping you become a leader that people love to follow. |
0:31.0 | Before we dive into new content, let me tell you about a couple things. First of all, in August, I've got a book coming out called Lead Like It Matters. |
0:39.0 | Yes, it's a leadership book. The subtitle is seven leadership principles for a church that lasts. |
0:45.0 | To be clear, this book is directed at church leaders, but I promise you there are leadership principles that will transfer into all types of leadership. |
0:54.0 | This is a revised and expanded version of a book that I wrote in 2008 called It. And I promise that it will be helpful to you. |
1:02.0 | It will be available in August. But if you want some free leadership resources, you can pre-order the book now and learn more about the free leadership resources at Craig Rose Shell. |
1:13.0 | Second, I want to remind you coming in August of this year, August 4th and 5th is the Global Leadership Summit, probably the biggest leadership event in the world, broadcast over 500 sites in the US, over 800 sites internationally. |

1:59.0 | Whenever you check out, if you want information, there's links and information in the leader guide. Today's episode is actually a talk that I believe could be very helpful to you and your leadership as a talk that I gave a couple of years ago at the Global Leadership Summit. |
2:14.0 | And like I said in the introduction today, we're going to learn to bend the curve. |
2:19.0 | And this is one thing that I know for certain about every single one of you as leaders. What I know for certain about you is that you want to get better. |
2:31.0 | If you're leading a startup tech company, if you're a seasoned CEO, if you're leading a nonprofit, if you're new to a job, if you're a pastor wanting to start a contemporary service, and all you're lacking is a worship pastor with skinny jeans and lots of hair product, no matter. |
2:48.0 | What it is that you care about and lead. What I know about you as a leader is that you want to get better. You want your organization better. You want to be more efficient. You want to be more profitable. You want to reach more people. Whatever it is, you want to be better. |
3:06.0 | I give you an example in 1996, Amy and I started a live search. We started it in a two car garage. It had been converted into a dance studio. And you can see the garage in the background. |
3:18.0 | If you look carefully in this next screen in the middle, you'll see something that if you are born after the year 2000, you won't know what it is. It looks like an extra terrestrial. |
3:28.0 | What it's called is an overhead projector. If you don't know what an overhead projector does, I'll explain it to you. It was used in education and it was used for a while in the church world. |
3:42.0 | What people would do in the church world is they would write the lyrics to a worship song on a piece of transparency. And then they would put it on usually off-centered on the thing. And it would spread up on the wall. |
