Today's question comes from Ilana, and Alana says, dear Ashley, thank you so much for your

podcast and blog. I want to ask you if Blue Spot Jasper and Sotolite are the same stone,

or if they're two different types of stones. They look different. Blue Spot has much more white color and

doesn't have the veins like Sotolite. Thank you. This is a great question, Alana, and when I first saw this blue spot jasper material,

sometimes it's just called blue spot stone, I thought it might be just a low grade variety of

sodalite or lapis, but I was having a hard time finding anything to confirm.

So like I often do, when I'm stumped about a

mineralogical question, I turn to my amazing friend Nicholas Pearson. Nicholas is the author of
