| 0:00.0 | How important is the Bible? Pretty important. I'm Father Matt Lowry, a priest of the |
| 0:06.0 | diocese of Phoenix, serving at Northern Arizona University, and today we're going to talk all |
| 0:10.4 | about how important is Scripture. Where do we receive the Bible? Some people feel, and they act as |
| 0:18.0 | if the Bible has always existed. And so questioning people like, |
| 0:22.8 | hey, where did the Bible come from is a little bit like Scott Hahn says, is asking somebody |
| 0:27.4 | to taste their tongue. They just, they can't fathom or understand. You know, they might quote |
| 0:32.4 | scripture to us and say, all scripture is useful for teaching and for refutation. But it's still a valid question. |
| 0:38.3 | Where do we get the Bible? Well, you have to start first in the Old Testament, that you have |

| 0:57.6 | they passed it out orally and people were much better at remembering things |
| 1:02.6 | you know how you know like we write things down and then I can't remember |
| 1:05.8 | stuff all the time but in the old days like that's you had to remember that |
| 1:09.0 | oral story and they were experts at remembering those things. |
| 1:12.3 | There's even early church fathers who supposedly could, basically, they memorized the Bible. |
| 1:17.6 | They just, that's what you had to do and they were good at it. |
| 1:20.6 | And so we have these stories of how God has revealed himself to this particular people, the Hebrew, the Israelite people. |
| 1:29.3 | And so out of all the people on the earth, that he's chosen these people. |
| 1:34.3 | And so we believe that God, that the Holy Spirit, works through the authors of Scripture. |
| 1:41.3 | That they're not in like a trance where he just like, they're not conscious, |
| 1:45.3 | but they're actually, they are conscious. |
