Summary

Through the NHL Coaches' Association Diversity Guest Coach Program, Kim Weiss and Kelsey Cline joined the Colorado Avalanche coaching staff for the Avs 2023 development camp and will guest throughout the year as well. Weiss is the Associate Head Coach for the Maryland Black Bears in the NAHL and is the first-ever female coach of a North American junior hockey team. Cline will start her first season as an assistant coach for the Ohio State women's hockey team after being named Director of Operations in 2021. 0:03.0	So we're both part members of the NHLCA, which is the NHL Coaches Association, female coaches
0:08.7	development program.
0:10.7	And I got involved in 2020 during COVID.
0:13.5	That's kind of when the program really lifted off.
0:16.1	I think actually you were supposed to be nominated by your local NHL program back then when I was
0:22.1	in the first phase so the capitals actually put my name in.
0:25.6	It started with just getting a pass to their free clinic, or it's not free but it's free
0:29.9	for me, a clinic in the summer.
0:32.2	And then after year one, I think they kind of revamped it and said, okay, let's, if they asked a lot of us,
0:38.7	you know, do you have friends that you think would be, like, worth the opportunity of getting
0:43.6	into this network of both the knowledge that you get from working with pro coaches and then
0:47.9	obviously just the network of getting to know these, for the most part, men, right? And so,
0:52.5	I think maybe that's how you, was that how you got in?
0:55.5	Yeah, mine was in that second year referred to the program from another female coach that was
1:02.9	already in it, had reached out, you know, I think you'd be good for this. Would you be interested?
1:08.6	And I'm like, for sure. So Kim was in the original
1:12.7	group, but yeah, I was fortunate. Someone that was in it had referred me.
1:17.6	For both of you, what has the experience been like so far with the abs and what's kind
1:23.6	of the biggest thing that you've gotten out of it so far?
1:26.6	I mean, the organization's first class.
