Summary

Mike Hill joins for me for a multi-episode exploration of the masterful book “Lila: An Inquiry Into Morals” written by best-selling author Robert Pirsig. This book may be one of the most undervalued ever written, as it proposes an alternative interpretation of reality that Pirsig calls “The Metaphysics of Quality” (MOQ). According to MOQ, reality is not made up of substance, but rather it is composed of distinct patterns of value. In a Copernican-like revolution of perspective, MOQ sheds new light on age-old debates such as moral relativism, the nature of subject-object duality, good vs. evil, science vs. religion, the importance of freedom, and the primacy of action.

I think about what you just said a lot, actually, that what if there's a fractal reflection of the relationship between mind and body between state and market.

So I would love to hear what you have to say about that.

That was, it took me a little while to understand it,

0:31.6

but that was a conclusion that I reached when I did the Bufo Arvarius,

which if anyone who's listening, Bufo Avarious is a toad

dry out and then smoke. And it contains within it a chemical compound called

5MEODMT, which is dimethyletreptamine, which is arguably one of the most potent

psychedelic. Oh, psychedelic's the wrong word because psychedelic comes with it, the idea of almost

1:07.8

just like a frivolous experience, like, you know, ecstasy where you go to a nightclub and get trashed.

1:13.2

It's, let's say, a transcendental experience.

1:17.8

Much more physiological than mental, right?

1:20.7

Much more physiological.

1:22.3

In fact, it would be transcendence through

1:31.4

submersion, I guess,

1:33.5

because you actually go into your body.

1:35.7

You don't go upwards, you go downwards, I would argue.

1:38.5

And when I did it,

1:41.5

when I effectively, when my consciousness dissolved, for want of a better word, into my body.

1:45.3

And I had a real, for the first time in a long time, like a deep awareness of my body,

1:52.6

fizzing and feeling, almost like feeling like myself.

1:57.0

And when I say that, to put, that sounds so wishy-washy.
