News: The crowds at the Disneyland Resort have been quite mild recently. This can be attributed to Southern California schools being back in session, and the imminent availability of the Magic Key program. Locals are now waiting for the Magic Key to go on sale to get access to the parks, instead of purchasing a higher priced 1-5 day ticket. For guests visiting, the attraction wait times have been in the 10 to 20 minute range for much of the week. If you are able, right now is a great time to go to the parks. Time will tell how the crowds will look after the Magic Key program launches next week. – https://www.micechat.com/298965-disneyland-update-the-shocking-calm-before-magic-keys-unlock-a-storm/ For guests that have been waiting to get tickets to the Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween parties this year, there is still time! Currently, September 9, 12, 16, and 19th are available, with no dates in October. The event was a ghoulishly fun time in 2019, and we are excited to go this year! The candy trails, decorations, entertainment, and atmosphere are totally worth the ticket price to this event. – https://www.micechat.com/298965-disneyland-update-the-shocking-calm-before-magic-keys-unlock-a-storm/ To go along with our news from last week that the bread bowls were being made in the parks again, the Bakery Tour has reopened. The location does have limited hours for the time being, from 8am to 3pm. Also of note in the area are the closing times of the dining locations in this area of the park. DCA closes at 10pm nightly currently, with Rita’s Baja Blenders closing at 7pm, Lucky Fortune Cookery closing at 8pm, and Cocina Cucamonga closing at 9pm. So, be sure to check times when thinking of food in the evenings. – https://www.micechat.com/298965-disneyland-update-the-shocking-calm-before-magic-keys-unlock-a-storm/ As time rolls on, more entertainment is returning to the parks slowly. This past week, the Bootstrappers are back performing their shanties in New Orleans Square. We hope that more entertainment returns soon like the Dapper Dans on Main Street. – https://www.micechat.com/298965-disneyland-update-the-shocking-calm-before-magic-keys-unlock-a-storm/ For listeners who will be in the resort area this weekend, there will be a cupcake decorating activity at Downtown Disney as a promotion for the new Disney Channel show “Disney’s Magic Bake-Off.” The decoration will take place Friday, August 20th, through Sunday, August 22nd at 5, 6, and 7pm. The event is free, with limited space. Participants must register in Downtown Disney starting at 4pm each day. Participants will decorate a cupcake with Disneyland Resort Pastry Chef Gracie Gomez. – https://www.mouseplanet.com/13003/Disneyland_Resort_Update_for_August_16__22_2021#news3 Some new Coco merchandise will be coming to Disneyland, Disney World, and shopDisney this September. A long-sleeved “Remember Me” shirt, with the saying on the front and Miguel on the shoulder, as well as a Loungefly backpack featuring Miguel, Hector, marigolds, and sugar skulls. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/08/photos-new-coco-loungefly-backpack-and-apparel-coming-to-disney-parks-and-shopdisney-in-september/ The Walt Disney Company quarterly earnings call was last week, here are some highlights. CEO Bob Chapek is enthusiastic about the upcoming Disney Genie app stating “guests will spend less time in line and more time having fun,” but also commented that it will offer the company “substantial commercial opportunities.” The U.S. parks saw the first profitable quarter since the pandemic began in 2020. The international parks are still posting a loss at this time. Disney+ has grown to 116 million subscribers, and November 12th will be Disney+ day, where new shows and movies will be announced for the platform. – https://dlnewstoday.com/2021/08/wdwnt-daily-recap-8-12-21-disney-releases-q3-earnings-report-walt-disney-world-50th-anniversary-merchandise-arrives-and-more/ The Spa part of the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa is reopening soon! On September 16th, the Tenaya Stone Spa will open for guests. Reservations can be made online for guests of the Disney Hotels for now, with general availability coming at a later date. The name Tenaya translates from the indigenous cultures of the Yosemite Valley as “to dream.” The spa embraces the concept of the natural order of 4, being laid out according to the 4 directions, and aligned with the 4 colors of red, white, black, and yellow. For a list of all the services offered, and to book a visit, check out the link in our show notes. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/08/13/opening-date-announced-for-the-tenaya-stone-spa-at-disneyland-resort/#more-537815 and https://www.micechat.com/298918-disneylands-imagineering-designed-tenaya-stone-spa-set-for-september-opening/ For those of you who visited Disneyland prior to the late 90s, you might remember the plain concrete walkways that were painted to differentiate the different land that you were in. Since then, the park has slowly replaced the concrete with either concrete that has decorative elements in it, like in Frontierland, or brick pavers like much of Main Street sidewalks, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. One of the last bits of this plain concrete is being replaced in front of the Fantasyland Theater at the entrance to Toontown. – https://www.micechat.com/298965-disneyland-update-the-shocking-calm-before-magic-keys-unlock-a-storm/ A refreshing sweet treat is available at the Hungry Bear Restaurant in Critter Country. The Watermelon Lemonade Freese with Whipped Cream and Sprinkles is a frozen drink that is reminiscent of watermelon Jolly Ranchers with frozen lemonade. The Disney Food Blog really liked this one, but warned it is not for guests without a sweet tooth. The drink is $5.99 at the Hungry Bear. – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2021/08/14/review-did-we-just-find-one-of-the-best-frozen-drinks-in-disneyland/#more-538404 Discussion Topic: Chris from DisneyChris.com
