Pirates are playing the Cardinals across the river tonight.

That's a 6.40 p.m. first pitch.

And although there's no official listing for the Pittsburgh starter, it'll actually be, we're being told Braxton Ashcraft back from a bereavement slash family

emergency leave, obviously hoping. The best for him. Calais on the mound, right? For the Cardinals.

Man, I don't know if there have been a lot of painful losses out of the ones the Pirates have had this season.

Like they've lost some games and they've lost them in ways that weren't all that attractive.

They've had some stinkers.

But you probably, even if you're a bad team and they're not, you could go through

162 game schedule and maybe lose three or four games in the ninth inning. I'm not kidding.

That's statistically proven. Once you get to

the ninth, especially with a two-run lead, and then your closer comes on the mound, it's,

it's game over probably 99% of the time. That's not an exaggerated figure. Dennis Santana goes out

there, it gives up the back-to-back homers. Yeah, we don't have to go over it again.

I have a couple of things to bring up on this subject.

One is that I really wasn't crazy about,

I don't mind leaving Santana in there after the back-to-back home runs.

You can get straightened out.

It's just a couple of swings.

I do have a problem with leaving him out there after the bases are loaded. And I understand,

Kim, Cam Sadler was your other option. And that's not all that attractive. But when you see
