R. Rooney shared his first remarks since the hiring of Mike McCarthy did so with the

Steelers official website, and they're not much more inspiring than the hire itself.

Bob Labriola's been with the team for, wow,

as long as I can remember, not to date you there, Bob. And he's very good at what he

does. And what he was tasked with yesterday was asking Rooney questions about the choice and then

putting his responses onto the site and the form of a semi-commentary, I think you could call it that,

presented that way.

The first thing that I have to say about it, and I'd hope that I end up being wrong about this,

but it feels like it might be something that would preempt Rooney from being available for questioning from the general media, myself included, at some

stage of this process, up to and including whenever McCarthy does get introduced at an actual

press conference, Snowmageddon willing. So to Rooney's remarks within quotation marks in this piece, there are a couple that I'd want to call attention to.

This one related to why the interview string didn't continue.

Quote, we wound up bringing in three guys for in-person interviews,

Brian Flores, Mike McCarthy, and Anthony Weaver.

Then we sat down and talked about whether we had our man

or if we wanted to bring in more people for in-person interviews.

We decided that Mike was the man for the job.
