To my mind over the past half decade, the single most maddening trait about this franchise has been its game day predictability.

Imagine if that were to change or even begin to change.

any sort of major splash or surprises, not even really a common

headline unless you want to count Isaac Salamalo showing up with an injury that's going to

limit him in the earliest stages. As I'd been sharing here for weeks, what I wanted to hear most,

and I really don't think I was alone on this,

was how is Mike Tomlin and his staff going to use Jalen Ramsey on the defensive side,

Jonu Smith on the offensive side?

They seemingly already had players in their positions, but they also knowingly have these guys who are better, and both of whom can do different things.

So it was rough going on this front early on.

For one, I have no idea what happened to Jono Smith.

He was around the reporters for a while near the dorm and then he walked up this hill by himself and then could be seen going left and right

across this hill and then just vanished. Now, he did show up again later in the day, but not for reporter access.

So there was never a chance to ask him anything.
