There's a ceiling. It's often referred to an athletic development. There's also a floor.

redundancy. The more I'd heard of this floor concept, the more I really liked it.

Made lots of sense.

If a player is a high-ceiling guy,

you might cite someone like a George Pickens who can do anything.

Well, not necessarily last night in Philadelphia,

three catches for 30 yards, but you get the point.

But there might be evaluators who get excited by the ceiling, regardless of whatever other

potential pitfalls might be in place. They'll say, eh, you know what, we'll deal with that.

It doesn't have to be off the field. It can be anything. And then there's the floor guys.

Mike Tomlin uses this term now, too, especially as it relates to the draft.

That's a safe pick. That's a sound pick. That's someone who's not going to let you down.

They're not going to blow you away either.

But let's just say, for instance, that the Steelers one year trade up to get Broderick Jones, a ceiling guy.

The next year, they take another tackle, Troy Fautano, who's always been viewed throughout his playing career as super dependable, somebody you can count on in all situations, but doesn't necessarily

alter the spectrum of what a tackle can be.
