As close as Mike Tomlin came to making news yesterday at his press conference,

and I mean just outright, straight, bold headline news,

was that he strongly suggested, A, he likes Justin Fields a lot,

B, he really wants to go with a mobile quarterback in 2025.

Tomlin made three real points as it related to the quarterback position yesterday.

The two that I just cited, and a third one in which he appeared to acknowledge and accept

the wording of a question that was put his way about the Steelers' various early exits

and the number of quarterbacks that they've deployed since Ben Rothesberger

and those not being a coincidence.

Now, if you take all three of those things and then highlight the part where he said this about how Fields impressed him over the 2024 season.

I thought that the way that he managed his professional circumstance was really impressive.

I thought he brought an urgency to his day-to-day work regardless of his role.

I thought he got continually better within our

system of ball throughout the process. I thought the way he conducted himself makes that

a legitimate thought or idea at this juncture. And then you go back and remember that when

Fields was four and two and was sent to the sideline in favor of Russell Wilson,

he went there with one interception to his name, and remember that was supposed to be his great undoing.

He went there with his team very much behind him, and by the way, don't forget that it was Tomlin who brought up on his own in public that he was the, quote, lone ranger, end quote, in choosing Wilson over fields at that juncture.
