I would not want to see Russell Wilson replace Justin Fields this weekend, but I also feel like it's really, really important to stress that Mike Tomlin himself did not say yesterday at his press

found this. I'm perfectly comfortable holding an opinion that a lot of Tomlin's press conference

yesterday had me pretty cringy, because it sounded as if he was

setting the stage for Wilson to return. Maybe he is. Maybe he isn't. Maybe he's buying himself

some time to see a couple of things in the three practices that they'll have beginning this afternoon.

One is obviously how healthy is Wilson, really.

I know that Tomlin said yesterday that he cleared all the hurdles he needed to clear last week,

but then we heard that once before about this calf and Wilson was shut down a day later.

Two, and this has to be a possibility, Tomlin, by not being definitive yesterday,

buys himself another two or three days to maybe feel a little bit more definitive in his mind.

Maybe he needs to see other things in practice, meaning not just the quarterback

performances, but also how does this offensive line look with now only two regulars remaining?

And I say too, because I count Dan Moore, I count Isaac Selmaul and I have a really hard time

counting Broderick Jones right now.

And if we're being real, if Troy Fowatano hadn't gotten hurt, he'd still be at right tackle and Jones would be on the bench.

So there's two of those guys.

And maybe Tomlin wants to see how, if things go wrong with the line, how do his two quarterbacks respond to that?

We saw how one of them responded in Las Vegas. I thought it was impressive. Not everybody agrees with me on that.
