Andy Haynes, who by every accounting I've had, did nothing more than adopt and deliver on the approach that Ben Charington himself prefers.

That's not me talking.

They both acknowledged it.

They both acknowledged that they were looking for, in different words,

extreme patience at the plate,

seeing a lot of pitches, running up pitch counts, although they backtracked on that terminology

over the final year or so when it became unpopular.
