Skeens was outrageously good, even by his own superb standard. Eight scoreless

innings. Two hits, no walks. Dude allowed two total base runners, and one of them was on the

softest, slothiest infield single you could dream up.

Seven strikeouts, and yet the number that would matter the most,

at least it felt like it, near the end,

was that Skeens ended up with 97 pitches,
