Penguins versus Rangers, it's a 742 p.m. faceoff, national TV, New York Spotlight, the whole deal, and all I care out of this scenario for as romantic as I can be about really any season opening, but especially the one for the sport that's always been closest to my heart, is I want to see some togetherness.

I want to see some chemistry.

I want to see some camaraderie.

And look, I'm sorry in advance if that seems a little bit too hokey and intangible for you

on a game day. I could get into all the power plays and X's and O's and who's going to be

first on the four check and how Chris LaTang and Matt Grizzlick are going to function as a pairing

and what all Rutger McGrorty needs to do to stick in the NHL.

I'm not going to lie to you.

I'm not there yet because I don't see a cause to be there until you see this team consistently,

methodically, reflexively, and passionately, defend.

And no, that doesn't just mean in the Pittsburgh zone.

That doesn't just mean getting the puck out. It means pursuing the puck at all points on the rink. It means tracking back

against the other teams forwards. It means preventing odd man breaks. My God, especially against
