It's 1987, your parents got divorced last year.

You go to your dad's apartment one day,

the only thing close to resembling furniture is his roommate Gene.

Gene owns a Camaro.

He knows every line for macroyd and candies armed and dangerous,

and is currently making an olive loaf sandwich.

Your dad is excited to show you his new toys.

His CDs. They're stacked up neatly, each with red

type face on white spines. Phil Collins, Peter Satara, Sting, Steve Wynwood, guys that were

part of something once but haven't but have branched off on their own.

Your dad plays one.

The sound is sleek, modern, crisp, but you don't care.

He'll play them all by the end of the weekend trying to engage you. You yawn, wish you brought the Nintendo

for mom and dugs. Since then, the memory of that music has been kept in a special drawer

in your conscience. Today, we open that drawer and give it a name divorce core.

That's eerily close to my youth. I'm a product of divorce core.
